Help Bring Healthcare to Communities

The Trent Fleming School of Nursing prepares nursing students not only to deliver cutting-edge care but also to advocate for underserved communities, break down barriers to access, and create meaningful change in our healthcare systems. 

The Community Health Outreach Vehicle brings this vision to life. 

Through a partnership with the new Peterborough Community Health Centre, this fully donor-funded initiative serves as a mobile classroom, providing students with hands-on training alongside nurse practitioners as they deliver frontline care. Students gain the clinical expertise and leadership skills they need to succeed, while learning firsthand what it means to provide healthcare that is accessible, equitable, and rooted in community. 

At the same time, the vehicle is transforming healthcare access for rural and Indigenous communities across Peterborough County. Families and individuals receive timely support for chronic and acute conditions, well-child visits, and access to harm reduction and sexual health supplies and education – services that many would otherwise struggle to access. 

This initiative was made possible through donor generosity, and with your continued support, its potential is momentous. 

Ongoing funding will sustain this vital service and allow us to expand into more communities, offer additional types of care, and involve students from other disciplines such as social work. Together, we can ensure that more people receive timely, equitable care while preparing a new generation of bold, visionary healthcare leaders.
