About Dr. Leo Groarke
Dr. Leo Groarke served as the eighth President and Vice-Chancellor of Trent University from 2014 to 2023, leading a period of sustained enrolment growth, strong financial stability, and significant campus development in Peterborough and Durham. Before joining Trent, he held senior academic leadership roles at the University of Windsor and Wilfrid Laurier University, contributing to institutional growth and campus development.
A respected philosophy scholar, Professor Groarke is an author and editor of numerous books, journals, and scholarly publications. His work and leadership span teaching, research, and academic service, with interests in ancient philosophy, higher education, the history of ideas, and the role of visual images in reasoning and persuasion.
Trent’s Philosophy Department established the Groarke Debate in honour of Prof. Groarke and to celebrate rigorous, public-facing intellectual exchange and interdisciplinary debate on urgent issues of public concern.
