David Sheperd Family Lecture Series

The David Sheperd Family Lecture Series connects the community with leading voices on global environmental issues. By bringing scholars and practitioners in research, policy, and practice to campus, the series strengthens Trent’s leadership in environmental studies and creates a focal point for public discussion on the critical issues of our time.

About David Sheperd

David A. Sheperd was a business leader and dedicated community builder whose values continue to shape Trent University’s engagement with environmental issues. He moved to Peterborough in 1985 as the founding president of A-L Stainless Inc. and quickly became deeply involved in community life.

He served in leadership roles across the region, including as chair of the local United Way board, at the provincial United Way level, and with skills development and industrial development initiatives throughout Ontario. He was also involved with the Centre for Manufacturing Development.

Guided by the belief that the earth is “a precious and fragile place”, Mr. Sheperd and his family established the lecture series to support public dialogue on environmental challenges and to strengthen Trent’s leadership in environmental education.
