The Tapscott-Lopes Business and Society Lecture

Dr. Don Tapscott ’66 served as Trent University’s 11th Chancellor and was the first alumnus to hold this distinguished role. He is one of the world’s leading authorities on the impact of technology on business and society, having authored 19 influential books. His latest book, You to the Power of Two, introduces the new era of “Identic AI,” outlining a bold vision for a decentralized, human-centred future.

He has coined many concepts that are part of the business lexicon today and is sought by corporate and government leaders globally, and was ranked the second most influential management thinker in the world by Thinkers50. He is currently Co-Founder & Executive Chairman of the Blockchain Research Institute, an Adjunct Professor at INSEAD, and a Member of The Order of Canada.

Dr. Ana Lopes is a social innovator, entrepreneur, and philanthropist known for her leadership in nonprofit governance and philanthropic strategy. She currently serves as a director of The Tapscott Group Inc. and has held senior leadership roles across the public and private sectors for more than 25 years.

Her contributions have been widely recognized. She is a Member of the Order of Canada, a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, and was awarded the Order of Merit by the President of Portugal. Trent recognized her impact by awarding her honorary alumni status and an honorary Doctor of Laws.

Together, Drs. Tapscott and Lopes have been dedicated advocates for mental health and addiction awareness for more than three decades.

Drs. Tapscott and Lopes established the Tapscott-Lopes Business and Society Lecture to advance ethical leadership and public dialogue.
