About Jack Matthews

Jack Matthews was a visionary international educator and the founding director of the Trent International Program, which he led from 1982 to 1989. His long-standing commitment to developing student leadership to advance global citizenship remains the foundation of Trent’s International Program today.

Beyond Trent, Matthews served as founding director of Pearson United World College of the Pacific, headmaster of Lakefield College School, and a key figure in the creation of the Canadian Canoe Museum. In recognition of his lasting contributions to education and community life, Trent awarded him an honorary degree in 1992.

The Jack Matthews Fellowship honours his belief in education as a force for international understanding and responsible global engagement.
