About Dr. Elaine Stavro 

Dr. Elaine Stavro, Professor Emerita in Political Studies, is a distinguished scholar in political theory, feminist theory, and continental philosophy. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Toronto and taught in England before joining Trent University in 1990.

Her research explores political theory, gender, and the body in contemporary culture, with a strong focus on feminist theory. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and authored Emancipatory Thinking: Simone de Beauvoir and Contemporary Political Thought, which explores complex ideas around emancipation.

The Elaine Stavro Distinguished Visiting Scholar program honours her academic leadership and commitment to interdisciplinary inquiry, providing students and community members access to internationally respected thinkers in theory, politics, and gender studies.
