Seasoned advancement leader joins Trent to oversee alumni engagement and philanthropic growth

Trent University is pleased to announce the appointment of Sandy Marett as associate vice-president, Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement.

With two decades of experience in fundraising and alumni engagement, and a master’s in environmental studies, Sandy brings a wealth of strategic leadership to Trent, having led major campaigns and engagement initiatives across the post-secondary and non-profit sectors. Her career has been defined by a commitment to building strong, values-driven relationships and driving transformative philanthropic impact.

“Sandy’s depth of experience and her passion for connecting people to purpose make her an ideal leader to guide our alumni and philanthropy efforts,” said Julie Davis, vice-president of External Relations & Development at Trent University. “Her collaborative approach and creative perspective will be instrumental as we continue to grow Trent’s culture of giving and deepen our relationships with alumni and supporters.”

Most recently, Sandy served as national director, Philanthropy & Campaign Planning at a leading Canadian charity, where she worked with business and community leaders to launch the organization’s first national fundraising campaign. Her leadership helped scale philanthropic impact and operational capacity, while building meaningful partnerships with donors, volunteers, and corporate supporters. Previously, she held senior advancement positions at post-secondary institutions where she spearheaded major gift strategies, alumni engagement programs, communications initiatives, and capital campaigns.

In her new role at Trent, Sandy will lead efforts to foster lifelong connections with the more than 68,000 Trent alumni around the world, while advancing the Momentous Campaign key priorities: championing Indigenous education, protecting the environment, supporting healthy aging, and empowering every student to thrive. The $100 million campaign has surpassed $63 million in support.

“I’m honoured to join the Trent community,” said Sandy. “Trent’s reputation for academic excellence, innovation, and meaningful student experiences is inspiring. I look forward to working with alumni, supporters, and volunteers to help shape the future of this remarkable institution and build on the meaningful work that is already being done.”

Sandy’s appointment is an exciting next chapter for Trent, as the University continues building a bright future with support from alumni and friends.
